Beneficiation control with Umbrella ERP software

Beneficiation is largely understood as adding value to raw materials thereby making them usable downstream for manufacturing or further processing. This applies to Gold, Coal, Diamond and Minerals in general. There is a strong move for countries that mine raw materials for beneficiation abroad to build local capacity so that the value-add of beneficiation can be exploited locally to build new industries and new jobs.

Beneficiation means flexibility as you usually do not know exactly what you are going to get out of your primary product. You often need to further re-process product to produce specific quantities or improve purity as needed to meet customer demand.

How does Umbrella do this?

  1. Umbrella allows you to open a job or batch without having to say what you are going to produce and how much.
  2. You are then able to issue your batch of primary material that you wish to process, along with any processing recovery costs required.
  3. This represents the total input beneficiation cost and is recorded as Work in Progress.
  4. You are able to record, in Umbrella – either from a manual job card or directly from a weighbridge – the value-added products you have produced and in what quantity. On completion of this receipting process the value of the Work in Progress is cost on a pro-rata basis across all the receipted products to ensure the correct value-added cost per unit of measure.
  5. Any product that requires further beneficiation (crushing, sorting etc.) runs through process 1 – 4 above, just as you would in your plant.
  6. The completed value-added products are then available for sale or further processing.

A simple solution to a complex problem. Many junior miners and small scale beneficiation companies will now be able to move away from tiring, administrative intensive spreadsheets and run integrated Umbrella ERP software, improving their stock control, costing and overall Supply Chain Management.
